This program provides vital instruction to students concerning Health, Wellness Care, Nutrition and Mobility of the patient. The student will be trained in basics of patient care, and learn the techniques needed to certify as a Nurse Aide/Assistant. Curriculum includes; medical terminology, infection control, safety and emergency procedures, resident’s rights, basic nursing skills, personal care skills, elimination procedures, skin care, transferring, positioning, turning methods, dressing, ambulating the patient, range-of-motion exercises, signs and symptoms of common diseases.
Nursing Training Program (CNA) will provide the highest quality and updated classroom training as well as Hands on training to meet the rigorous demands of all types of healthcare setting, i.e. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Skilled Nursing Facilities,etc. The Up to date classes will rigorously prepare the students to qualify for the Nurse Aide Licensure Examination so they will be able to practice CNA in the State of New York immediately.
Our Healthcare care Programs at Austin medical Assistant Training will assist the students to work as soon as possible and assist also advancement in this field of Healthcare, i.e. PCT, etc.
Program Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to identify the following:
1. Describe the functions of body systems appropriate to the nursing assistant scope of practice.
2. Describe the roles and responsibility of nursing assistants including ethics, communication, legal responsibilities, abuse laws, and New York State Board of Nursing regulations.
3. Demonstrate professional communication skills including recording and reporting, and legal and ethical responsibilities.
4. Demonstrate safety and infection control practices that comply with standards of practice for nursing assistants.
5. Identify stages of growth and development.
6. Define common medical terms and abbreviations used in health care.
7. Demonstrate competence and proficiency in the following categories of skills:
- Communication and interpersonal relationships.
- Safety and infection control.
- Personal care procedures.
- Vital signs.
- Nutritional requirements and techniques.
- Admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
- Exercise and activity.
- Elimination.
- Non-sterile warm and cold applications.
- Care to clients with special needs.
- End of life care.
- Care to clients with cognitive impairment.
8. Comply with privacy and confidentiality laws.
9. Demonstrate behaviors consistent with professional work ethics.
Adhere to the policies and procedures of clinical sites. Clinical Externship/Internship 30 hours, Lecture 59.5 hours and Lab 35.5 hours total 125 clock hours.
Prerequisites
High School Diploma, GED, TASC or a foreign country high school diploma
(Must be in English or translated into English)
After the successful completion of required course work and externship hours (125 clock hours) a student may sit for the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Nurse Aide Exam.
